The Noah B. Bacon Poetry Project

This page is dedicated to the poetry and writings of  Noah Brockway Bacon,  those of his descendants and their family ties.

Noah Brockway Bacon (1799-1902) was a true American pioneer. The son of a Revolutionary War veteran, Noah was "famous" in his day for having lived in three different centuries, but also known for what in his later life became a yearly event of him writing a new poem to commemorate his birthday.

When in his early 40's, Noah traveled from New York state with his family in tow to make a new home for them in what was then the Wisconsin territory. From there he later moved to Iowa near the end of his life but left some of his many descendants to carry on in Wisconsin. This website assembles together all of the known works of Noah B. Bacon along with interviews he gave.

In addition, it presents short stories written by his Great Great Granddaughter, Daisy "Maude" (Bacon) Colburn (1913-1990) about her life growing up in the 1920's in and around the Easton, Wisconsin area.  Also included are histories of the Douglas family who, like the Bacons and Colburns, were early Wisconsin pioneers and were the maternal ancestors of Maude's husband Chester Colburn.

It is hoped that presenting these works will shine a light upon the early settlers of Wisconsin and the unique literary contributions of those who at the time were the farmers and hard workers of a growing nation.
